About Eric Smoldt

My professional history

Eric Smoldt, graphic artist and visual communications designer, photographed against a dark wood-panel background wearing a slate vest, white shirt, and brown leather suspenders.

Hi, I'm Eric, a graphic artist with more than 30 years of experience in visual communication. in college, I got my start as the first intern ever hired by Elgin Sweeper Company in Elgin, Illinois, the largest manufacturer of street sweepers in North America. I illustrated many of those machines in Adobe Illustrator for parts manuals, sales literature, and technical documentation.

After I graduated from college, I moved into agency work as an art director and illustrator at Kragie Newell in Des Moines, Iowa, where I built a foundation in creative direction. I went on to launch and run my own design agency, Group 3, Inc., serving a wide range of clients across industries.

My path then led into higher education, with roles at Des Moines Area Community College, Goshen College, and ultimately Purdue University, where I spent 19 years. At Purdue, I partnered with departments and research centers to develop brand systems, print campaigns, websites, and visual strategies that helped communicate complex ideas clearly and effectively.

I'm now based in Battle Ground, Indiana, working independently as a freelance graphic artist. I bring expert-level knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud apps and a collaborative, detail-driven approach to every project.
