Purdue University College of Agriculture

A publication template built for many authors

Purdue Extension publishes fact sheets and guides written by specialists across the state. I redesigned the template the College of Agriculture now uses, so each new publication looks like part of one family and comes out of InDesign ready to be made accessible.

The ask

One look, many authors, two languages

The college needed a template that kept its look consistent across authors and topics, worked in English and Spanish, and held up when the finished PDF had to meet WCAG 2.1 AA.

What I did

  • Designed the page system: masthead, gold ribbon, headline and body styles, sidebars and tables
  • Built paragraph, character, table and object styles so authors apply structure rather than formatting
  • Mapped every style to a PDF tag, so headings, lists and tables export with meaning
  • Set up Spanish editions with the correct language settings

The result

The template the college uses today

The template is in use across the Health and Human Sciences series. Publications built on it, including HHS-819-W and the bilingual HHS-790-W and HHS-841-W, pass PAC 2026 with zero PDF/UA failures.
